Who we are

Dr Ann-Maree Moodie provides sought-after counsel to Boards, Non-Executive Directors and CEOs drawing on her 25 years’ experience conducting governance assignments for, and providing formal and informal advice to, Boards across sectors and industries.

Combining deep governance expertise with anthropology, Dr Moodie offers boards a unique “bridge of insight” into the cultural issues of companies and the businesses they govern. Her work is increasingly relevant at a time when Directors are required to oversee organisational culture yet must maintain an appropriate distance from business operations.

Dr Moodie’s professional qualifications equip her particularly well for a thoughtful, methodically rigorous Board Review, and to deliver a report – often written in an ethnographic style – that conveys the findings and Recommendations with clarity and insight, so that the Board can act effectively on the results.

She also advises CEOs and senior leadership teams on how to communicate successfully with their Boards through Board paper writing and Board presentation training.

Dr Moodie’s experience is across sectors. She is regularly engaged by listed company Boards, Trustee superannuation Boards, University governance bodies, and Boards of organisations in which the Federal Government has a special interest.

Dr Moodie was awarded her doctorate from Macquarie University for her research on “independence and conformity in Board decision-making”. One of her examiners stated that the thesis is in the “top 10% of PhD theses on corporate governance globally”. Another stated that Dr Moodie is “steeped in the experience of the environment and the practice of boards”. In 2024, Dr Moodie graduated with a Master of Anthropology from ANU and is in advanced discussions with Routledge about a new book, “The Boardroom Anthropologist”. Her private Instagram page – @theboardroomanthropologist – is followed by leading Chairs, NEDs, CEOs and NEDs.

Dr Moodie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (Journalism and Japanese) (RMIT), a Post-Graduate Certificate in Editing and Electronic Publishing, (Macquarie University) and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance, (Governance Institute of Australia). She is a Graduate of the AICD’s Company Directors Course and of the prestigious Asialink Leaders Program.

She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries (UK), and a member of the Singapore Institute of Directors.

Dr Moodie is a NED of the Penrith Performing and Visual Arts Board and the Chair of the Gender Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) Committee of the Australia Japan Business Co-Operation Committee.
